Peter’s main focus, in addition to his role as chief executive, is wealth management covering investment and tax planning, and his law degree is useful in advising trustee investors. Peter founded Peter Rutherford & Company in 1992 having moved back to Morpeth from Essex, where he had already been working as a successful IFA.

Peter first came into the profession in 1979 when he joined the Norwich Union as a graduate trainee.

Peter has a regular column in The North-East Times monthly magazine, and regularly appears on local television and radio. In 2003 he was invited to sit on the board of Universal Building Society as a non-executive director. After its merger with the Newcastle Building Society, he chairs its subsidiary, Kings Manor Properties Ltd.

Peter is married and is a keen follower of sport as well as an active golfer.
